When what you're doing is no longer working, then you might be ready for therapy. Are you making choices based in fear, reacting instead of responding, people pleasing or feeling anxious? Then it’s time for a change and that’s where I come in. I'm a psychotherapist and Drama Therapist. My strong background in the arts promotes play and creativity as a vehicle for transformation. I integrate various client-centered modalities such as Hakomi, EMDR and some DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) techniques with creativity and mindfulness in a unique way that best suits each client. I practice in a nurturing, contained atmosphere to support you in feeling safe, seen and heard.
I use traditional talk therapy that moves beyond the couch by using movement, expressive arts, guided imagery, mindfulness and body wisdom. Our work might include story telling, role play or even a theatrical performance for those who are hungry to do so. More on my LINKS page.
I will support your goals to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you can shine in your life. Let your Best Self Shine-Through. Read about my specializations below.
Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience during our lives. Through counseling and treatment, I can support you towards the change you want in your life.
Gone are the days when people wore arm bands as a symbol of bereavement. In fact, we are expected to spring back to business-as-usual in just a few weeks. But true grief needs attention. I will sit with you as we explore the various styles of grieving. From the solemn existential to the active and industrious, it's a process unique to each.
“We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light." - Plato
I'm Marianne Shine. I'm first generation American as my parents were both immigrants. I raised three kids and love both cats and dogs. I graduated from CIIS- the California Institute of Integral Studies, with a Masters in Counseling Psychology. I am a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist and a Registered Drama Therapist and hold a certificate in Shakespeare from A.C.T. I completed the Hakomi Comprehensive (a somatic therapy), am an assistant trainer and am nearly fully certified. I have completed all three levels of EMDR training through the Parnell Institute and use this frequently in my practice with great results around trauma based issues. My clinical experience includes drama therapy at UCSF Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital, grief counseling at Hospice By The Bay and counseling at Elementary and Middle Schools. I direct Shakespeare plays with incarcerated men at San Quentin Prison through the Marin Shakespeare Company. I invite you to click on the link to see our videos. I am thrilled to have my own private practice in Marin and am accepting new clients.
Yes, you read that right. What makes me unique is that I'm a Drama Therapist. I like working with adults and teens who are curious. Some days we might try art, movement role play or just talk. Sounds fun, doesn't it? Give me a call today and see if we're a good fit for helping your best self Shine-Through!
